All one needs to know about scalp psoriasis

Scalp psoriasis makes the skin reddish and gives rise to scaly patches. These patches can be either on one spot or spread throughout the scalp. Effects of this condition can spread to the forehead, behind the ears, the back of the neck, and the nape area. The causes of scalp psoriasis remain unknown, but they seem to stem from an unhealthy immune system. Here are a few other essential factors of scalp psoriasis.

The symptoms of scalp psoriasis depend on the severity of the condition. Mild cases of scalp psoriasis are known to only cause scaling on the skin, but moderate as well as severe cases aggravate dandruff-type flakes, dry scalp, itching, and burning on the scalp, soreness, hair loss, red, scaly bumps on the scalp, and silvery-white scales.

Common home remedies used for dealing with scalp psoriasis are as follows:

Baking soda
This remedy helps relieve itching on the scalp. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Take a clean piece of cotton, soak it in this mixture, and dab it onto the affected area. Soaking the head in this mixture is also an option if the itching is all over the scalp.

Aloe vera
This plant is a super remedy to help easily manage the symptoms of scalp psoriasis. Some aloe-vera-based creams keep the skin moist and prevent flaking. One must speak to a dermatologist before applying the gel of this plant directly to the skin.

Coconut or avocado oil
Both coconut and avocado are full of healthy fats that keep the skin hydrated and plump. Slightly heat some oil in a bowl, and with the help of cotton, gently dab it onto the scaly regions. Another recommended step is to gently massage this oil on the skin and wash it off after 20 minutes.

Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make garlic a great addition to the list of scalp psoriasis remedies. Add some crushed garlic with aloe vera and apply this paste to the skin. Wash this mix off with cold water after 15-20 minutes.

Oatmeal bath
Add some unflavored oatmeal to the bathtub and let it soak for some time. Sit in this bath for some time and let the oatmeal heal the itchiness and irritation from the skin. This remedy is soothing for the skin as it alleviates itchiness in the inflamed areas.
